Staying golden: Abiraame Popular Jewellers upgrades in-store collections with HSBC

  • Article

Abiraame Popular Jewellers Pte Ltd (APJ) is a renowned jewellery boutique in Singapore. Their extensive range of artisanal products have made them a name trusted by generations of Singaporeans.

Despite being a single-store boutique, APJ has taken significant strides in providing their customers with a modern shopping experience in line with their preferences. They have an online shop that allows customers to view and place orders for goods, which they can then inspect and pay for at their physical store. This has tended to be their customers’ preferred way of making purchases.

The challenge

With a well-established omni-channel commerce proposition between their online and offline stores, APJ was looking to further enhance this by enhancing the in-store payment experience. With the growing popularity of payment methods such as QR codes and e-wallets in Singapore, APJ identified the need to upgrade their existing in-store POS terminals, which had only supported debit and credit cards as payment options.

They noted that the benefits of doing so were twofold. Firstly, it would provide customers with a wider range of payment options, enabling more convenience and flexibility on in-store payments. Secondly, it would also help to streamline costs incurred from merchant fees associated with card payments.

However, APJ observed that expanding the number of supported payment options would potentially involve multiple service providers, which would each have their own payment process, and report format. Recognising the potential challenges in payment identification and reconciliation that would result from this, they sought to find a streamlined solution that could enable the desired experience without incurring any of the potential process inefficiencies.

The solution

APJ thus reached out to HSBC, who recommended Omni Collect as a convenient and cost-effective way of expanding their number of supported payment methods. Through a single payment terminal, APJ have enabled support for popular e-wallets such as Alipay, as well as Dynamic QR code payments via PayNow, Singapore’s real-time payment rail, providing customers with a simple “scan and pay” process. This has provided APJ’s customers with greater convenience and flexibility, while mitigating the inefficiencies from card collections.

Omni Collect enables a simplified collections reconciliation process by providing consolidated collections reports in a consistent format, along with the real-time credit notifications that are delivered directly to APJ’s POS terminal each time a payment is made. The Omni Collect Portal on HSBCnet also gives APJ enhanced data and analytics on the way customers are choosing to pay, empowering them with strategic insights on how to further enhance their in-store payment experience.

Serving the needs of our customers has been a central tenet of our business from the start. We believe that the solution from HSBC will be key in allowing us to grow our business for years to come as the world continues to digitise at pace.
